Strand Lighting Environ 2 dimmer racks were the architectural standard — with over 10,000 installations of this workhorse architectural dimmer, it was the defacto standard for high performance dimming in hotels, museums, theatre lobbies, etc. While no longer in production, we are offering complete service for this architectural mainstay.
The Strand Lighting Environ 2 dimmer rack system pack has gone through four major revisions.
- The first Environ 2 racks had dual PCBs forming the backplane for the program module, a 7820 module.
- Later, a panic microswitch was added that enabled the rack to go into panic when the program module was removed.
- Next, the dual PCBs gave way to a sigle PCB backplane that greatly increased connection reliability and did away with program module alignment problems. This new backplane PCB also brought with it a relay to eliminate the intermittently operating microswitch.
- The 7820 also gave way to the 7825 program module which itself would undergo several revisions. In its final incarnation, the Environ 2 dimming system would be quite robust, often running with both fans out for quite sometime without fail.
The Environ 2 dimmer rack can often be easily repaired as most of the parts are commonly available, and program modules are usually a swapout away. The most common failure is a bad SSR and, after 7 - 10 years, a bad power supply, a victim of running 24 hours a day everyday of the year. After that the Environ 2 dimmer racks are usually free from major problems.
The two most common reasons Environ 2 program modules and stations fail are because of lighting. Fortunately, Emlight offers complete repairs on the electronics except for the 7820 program module on which we offer only a “best we can do” repair service as this module is quite obsolete and also for display problems on the 7400/7410 master station as the display is no longer available.
